No Bondi bid: Farnworth says it’s ‘Dolphins first’ in his re-signing plans

Herbie Farnworth has suggested he wants to stay in Redcliffe to win an NRL premiership with the Dolphins, shooting down “media talk” that he had already privately agreed to join the Sydney Roosters from 2028.

The 26-year-old England international is a free agent from November 1, and many have claimed he’s heading to Bondi to join the Roosters.

Farnworth has confirmed the Dolphins is where he wants to stay long-term if he stays in the NRL though, with their title bid this season hopefully one of many for the star-studded squad up in Brisbane.

“I am just focused on winning a competition here,” Farnworth said, telling reporters he hadn’t seen any Sydney offers before free agency.

“I am signed here for this year and next year. I have not had any thoughts on leaving. I’m happy. [The Roosters link] is just media talk. We haven’t spoken to anyone and I certainly haven’t heard anything.

“We have got a really good run this year. I don’t want anything… to get in the way. I’m sure when [talks] roll around, I will speak to the Dolphins first.

“We have some great players in our team and it would be great to stay.”

No surprise that Farnworth wants to focus on the now too: The Dolphins are currently running third heading into Round 17 and are on a seven-game winning streak after beating Wests Tigers 36–22 last Saturday. The Redcliffe outfit has never played NRL finals footy before.

“Obviously we are very happy with the way we are playing recently, but there’s a lot of stuff to work on still. We are never fully satisfied with our game, especially on the weekend,” he said, meaning the Tigers victory.

“We will come out a very different side with the Origin boys back.”
