Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic of Sombor, Serbia made National Basketball Association history on Sunday. With the 2024-25 NBA regular season coming to a close, Jokic became the first center in NBA history to average a triple double for the season according to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports. Jokic averaged 29.6 points per game, 12.7 rebounds per game, and 10.2 assists per game.
Jokic is the third player ever to average a triple double for the season. The other two players to accomplish the feat are point guards Russell Westbrook of Long Beach, California and Oscar Robertson of Charlotte, Tennessee.
Robertson was the first player to average a triple double in a season. In 1961-62 with the Cincinnati Royals, he averaged 30.8 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game, and 11.4 assists per game.
Westbrook, who now plays for the Nuggets, is the all-time leader in triple doubles with 203. In 2016-17 with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he averaged 31.6 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game, and 10.4 assists per game. In 2017-18 with the Thunder, Westbrook averaged 25.4 points per game, 10.3 assists per game, and 10.1 rebounds per game. In 2018-19 with the Thunder, he averaged 22.9 points per game, 11.1 rebounds per game, and 10.7 assists per game. In 2020-21, with the Washington Wizards, Westbrook averaged 22.2 points per game, 11.7 assists per game, and 11.5 rebounds per game.

The top two seeds in the East are the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. Meanwhile, in the play-in tournament, the Orlando Magic will play the Atlanta Hawks in the 7-8 game, and the Chicago Bulls will play the Miami Heat in the 9-10 game.
