Joliestar will have her third crack at The Everest after Chris Waller Racing confirmed the star mare for its slot in the $20 million sprint at Royal Randwick on Saturday 17 October. The six-year-old ran seventh in the race in 2024 and fifth behind Ka Ying Rising last year.
Chris Waller Racing announced the call on X, and Waller said the mare had earned the spot with her form over the past year, Racenet reported. It will be her third straight start in the stable’s slot.
What Chris Waller said
“Her form over the past 12 months has been that of the premier Australian sprinter,” Waller said.
“She went to Royal Ascot and performed admirably against some of the best sprinters in the world, which gave everyone involved enormous confidence in just how good she is,” he said.
“To have her represent the slot for a third consecutive time is a fantastic result, and we’re incredibly excited to see her back at Royal Randwick.”
Waller shares the slot with Neville and Jenny Morgan, Peter and Patricia Tighe (Magic Bloodstock), Noel and Maria Greenhalgh, and Ingham Racing, according to Racenet.
Joliestar’s form this year
The daughter of Zoustar won the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes and the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick this year before running third at Royal Ascot in June, Breednet reported. She has 10 wins and eight placings from 22 starts and about $9.4 million in prize money, making her the highest stakes earner by her sire, according to Breednet.
She resumed this spring with second to Mazu in the Group 2 The Shorts at Randwick last month. On Tuesday 6 October she ran fourth, 3.1 lengths from the winner, under James McDonald in the 1000m Randwick barrier trial where Ka Ying Rising was beaten a long head by Ninja, according to Racing NSW’s interim trial results.
The Everest field so far
Joliestar joins Ka Ying Rising, Ninja, Headwall, Blue Door, Spicy Martini, Savvy Hallie, Tempted and Jimmysstar as confirmed runners, making her the ninth horse locked in for the 12-horse race. Before Waller’s announcement, races.com.au reported that Yulong was still assessing Group 1 winner Angel Capital, while Coolmore and James Harron Bloodstock were yet to reveal their runners.
Final declarations close at 10am on Tuesday 13 October, under the official race conditions, and our Everest field guide tracks every slot.
