Hawkesbury hosts a rare midweek Metro meeting at Sydney this week. Our analyst likes a Hawkes 5yo that has impressed at the trials and a Pride mare that should be peaking 3rd up in a race that lacks depth as the value play.

Best Selection: R5- Spione
The lightly raced Hawkes 5yo looks set to perform resuming over 1300m. I’ve liked what we’ve seen in 2 900m Rosehill trials. The first saw him settle well back and cruise straight past Joliestar under slightly more vigorous hands and heels riding before Ford allowed him to cruise to the line to finish 0.8L 2nd to Horizons. The latest saw him again settle a long way back before hitting the line just as impressively to finish 2.9L 5th. He has built an impressive 7: 3-1-1 record and Gate 3 is perfect allowing him to not land too far back before hitting the long Hawkesbury straight.

Value Selection: R4- Dear Jewel
Dear Jewel has been hard to catch with one win from 15 career starts but looks to have found the right race peaking 3rd up coming off a tick over trial and getting in on the 54kg limit. Her 1L 3rd over this trip at Warwick Farm last start rates well in a field that lacks depth and she gets a senior rider back in the saddle.
