According to Bruce Cunningham of FOX News on Wednesday, former Baltimore Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro of Yorktown, Virginia passed away at the age of 28. The cause of death was reportedly a heart attack according to a family member.

Taliaferro played three seasons in the National Football League with the Ravens from 2014 to 2016. He was mainly a backup running back in his rookie season of 2014 behind Justin Forsett, and Bernard Pierce. Taliaferro then only had 14 more carries over the next two seasons before being waived by the Ravens right before the start of the 2017 regular season.

In 82 career carries, Taliaferro had 339 yards and five touchdowns. He also 16 catches for 153 yards.

Taliaferro’s two finest games came during the 2014 NFL season. On September 21, 2014, in a narrow 23-21 Ravens win over the Cleveland Browns, Taliaferro had 18 carries for 91 yards and one touchdown. Then on October 26, 2014, Taliaferro had a multi-touchdown game in the only time of his career as he found the end zone twice with a career-high 42 receiving yards in a 27-24 Ravens loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Both of Taliaferro’s major scores in the contest were rushing touchdowns.

Initially drafted in the fourth round, 138th overall by the Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft, Taliaferro went to Coastal Carolina where he was the 2014 Big South Conference Athlete of the Year. Coastal Carolina is making headlines in 2020, as they are one of seven undefeated teams in college football heading into this weekend. To date, they have a record of 11 wins and zero losses.

Then at the end of Taliaferro’s professional football career, he tried to make the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. However, he was cut during the 2018 preseason. The Tiger-Cats were looking at Taliaferro as a defensive player rather than as a running back.

In Ravens news of 2020, Baltimore is coming off an impressive 47-42 win over the Cleveland Browns this past Monday night. Currently, at 8-5, their chances of making the playoffs in the AFC slightly improved when the Las Vegas Raiders were upset 30-27 in overtime by the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday.
