Joao Fonscea of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has decided not to take part in the Asian events on the ATP Tour over the next month. According to the ATP Tour, he needs to recover both physically and mentally.
Fonseca has been dealing with an injury to his abdomen. As a result, he was forced to withdraw from his third round match against Christopher O’Connell of Australia at the Cincinnati Open, and did not compete at the 2026 United States Open.

Then next week there are two ATP 500 events in Asia (the Japan Open in Tokyo and the China Open in Beijing). Finally, in earlier October it is the Shanghai Masters. This event is prestigious as it is an ATP Masters 1000 Series event.
Fonseca is currently ranked 28th in the world. At 20 years of age, he is one of the game’s rising stars. In 2026, Fonseca has a record of 20 wins and 13 losses, and has won $1.6 million in prize money. He reached the quarterfinals of Monte Carlo, Munich, and the French Open in 2026.
